The main vote to elect the 47th president of the United States will take place several hours later across the country.

Unprecedented variables such as Biden's resignation and the shooting of former President Trump have continued, leading to a super-contact pattern, drawing global attention to the results.

I'll connect with a Washington correspondent to find out about the situation on the ground ahead of the vote. Correspondent Hong Sang-hee!

Yes, it's Washington.

The head-to-head match between Vice President Harris and former President Trump will take place soon. What's the atmosphere like in the local area?

[Reporter]
Yes. I'm in front of the White House right now.

The time here is now past 9:50 p.m.

Ahead of the start of the main vote, a large black iron fence is installed in front of the White House.

Fences are placed in front of the Capitol and the Supreme Court, as well as in Lafayette Square near the White House, and security is further strengthened.

To prevent a repeat of the January 6 storming violence that has occurred since the 2020 presidential election, Washington, D.C. is increasing police presence and installing bulletproof glass at election offices.

Vice President Harris and former President Trump went on a last-minute campaign trail right before the election, right?

[Reporter]
Both Vice President Harris and former President Trump have chosen Pennsylvania, the contested state, as their last campaign destination.

Vice President Harris is all-in in Pennsylvania today, from President Joe Biden's hometown of Scranton through Allentown, Puerto Rican residence, and holding a campaign rally in Philadelphia at around 11 p.m. with Lady Gaga and others.

Emphasizing the vote for freedom and the start of a new America, he appealed to the last support.

Listen to Vice President Harris.

[CAMALA HARRIS / VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: I am proud of my long-standing commitment to Puerto Rico and its people. And I will be the president for all Americans. We will not go back to the past.]

Starting with Raleigh, North Carolina, this morning, former President Trump will campaign in Reading and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from the afternoon, before wrapping up his presidential campaign with his last nightly campaign in Michigan.

Former President Trump, who pushed ahead, highlighted the issue of illegal immigration and said he would impose 25% tariffs if Mexico failed to prevent illegal immigration to the United States.

Let's listen to it.

[Donald Trump / Former President of the United States: If (Mexico) doesn't stop criminals and drugs from entering our country, we will immediately impose a 25% tariff on all goods they send to the United States.]

The most curious thing is when the presidential election results will come out. How do you expect it locally?

[Reporter]
It could be as early as 7 days in Korean time, or this week if it's late.

Starting with Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, at midnight here, the main vote will continue for 25 hours to Alaska at 1 a.m. on the 6th.

Attention is being paid to when the results of the seven competing state votes that will determine the results of the presidential election will be released.

Pennsylvania, which has the largest number of voters among 93 in the contested state, is expected to take some time to announce the results because mail-in ballots will begin to be counted on election day.

Nevada recognizes mail-in ballots stamped on Election Day on the 5th, and Michigan and Georgia can be recounted or requested if the margin is less than 0.5 percentage points.

If either Vice President Harris or former President Trump wins in a landslide, the results may come out by the morning of the 7th in Korean time, but if the vote count continues, the possibility of passing this week cannot be ruled out.

The U.S. presidential election is a battle to secure electoral votes distributed by states. What are the number of cases?

[Reporter]
As you said, the candidate who secures more than 270 out of the total 538 electors will win.

Currently, Vice President Harris has 226 electors, including New York and California, and former President Trump has 219 in southern regions such as Florida and Texas. The winner of the presidential election will be determined by who secures 93 more electoral votes in seven competing states, as candidates who get even more votes

are winner-take-all structure that secures all the voters assigned to each state.

For Harris, if she wins all of the Rust Belt, including Pennsylvania and Michigan and Wisconsin, she will achieve a magic number of 270.

Former President Trump will win Georgia and North Carolina, which have 16 electors after Pennsylvania, and re-enter the White House if he wins Pennsylvania.

That's why winning Pennsylvania, which has the most electors with 19, is imperative for both candidates, and that's why both candidates are heading for Pennsylvania today.
