The government welcomed the Chinese government's announcement of a temporary short-term visa waiver for Koreans.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lee Jae-woong said in a regular briefing that he thinks it will make a positive contribution to revitalizing human exchanges between the two countries as Korean people's visits to China have become more convenient.

He added that the promotion of such exchanges between the two countries is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing mutual understanding and promoting friendly sentiment between Korea and China.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on its website on the 1st that it will implement a "unilateral visa-free policy" for general passport holders in nine countries, including South Korea, from the 8th to December 31st next year.

As a result, ordinary Korean passport holders are not required to obtain a visa if they visit China within 15 days for business, travel, tourism, or visiting relatives or friends.
