Former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant insisted that "a painful compromise must be made for the return of hostages held in Gaza."

After the minister's term ended at 8 p.m. local time on the 7th, former Minister Galant posted on social media, saying, "The soldiers, including the war dead and the wounded, did their best to achieve their war goals and set conditions for dismantling the Hamas organization and getting the hostages back."

This means that as the goal of sweeping Hamas has been achieved to some extent, we should focus on negotiations for the return of hostages rather than sticking to military operations.

On the 5th, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said he would remove Galant from his position as defense minister and nominate Israeli Foreign Minister Katz to replace him.

Gallant, a former commander of the Israeli military's southern command, led the Gaza war as the head of the Defense Ministry for exactly 13 months since the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7 last year.

Gallant has clashed with Netanyahu several times, including against the presence of troops in the "Philadelfi Corridor" in the buffer zone on the Egypt-Gaza border, saying hostage lives should be prioritized.
