Misogynistic Expression Explodes Online After U.S. Presidential Election

Starting with the U.S. presidential election day, harassment, abuse, and hate speech against women have exploded online.

The U.S. think tank's Strategic Dialogue Research Institute said there was a 4,600% increase in references such as "your body, my choice" or "go back to the kitchen" on X between the 5th and 24 hours.

In addition, hate speech that combines abusive language against women toward Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and others was mentioned more than 64,000 times in more than 42,000 accounts on the day of the presidential election alone.

Calls to abolish the 19th Amendment to the United States, which guaranteed women's suffrage, have also resurfaced online, with related posts up 663% from the previous week.

The Strategic Dialogue Research Institute explained that it found five posts calling for "sexual assault" or "sexual assault" on X, one of which was viewed 18,000 times, with the highest number of views.

There are also reports that harassment is not just online, but especially at school sites.

One parent wrote, "My daughter was told 'your body, my choice' three times a day on college campus."

The Strategic Dialogue Research Institute said influencers and politicians who work mostly in male-dominated or misogynistic online communities interpret Trump's victory as a victory for women's reproductive rights and gender equality demands.

He added that they are using the presidential election victory as a structure that allows them to make more explicit and aggressive claims to narratives that limit women's rights.
