The BBC reported on the 8th that a Russian court sentenced its soldiers to life in prison for killing a family in eastern Ukraine.

Russian soldiers Anton Sophov, 21, and Stanislav Rau, 28, who were reportedly sentenced to life in prison, were accused of killing nine members of their family in Donetsk, Ukraine, last year.

Russia's Tas news agency reported that the two soldiers were convicted of murder "caused by political, ideological, ethnic, ethnic or religious hatred."

The ruling is considered an unusual case in which a Russian court held its soldiers responsible for war crimes.

Since invading Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian military has been accused of committing several war crimes, including attacking civilians, but denies all of them.
