The search for the missing 10 people of the fishing boat Venus, which sank on the 8th, continues day and night.

One of the reasons for not speeding up the search is the "net" connected to the hull, which is likely to take at least a week to remove.

This is reporter Kim Ki-soo.

A major obstacle to the search for missing people on the Venus is the "net" connected to the hull.

It has been confirmed that it is 1.2km long and 100m wide, and is spread out from 90m to 35m deep with the sunken hull.

The net is also in the way of the search for the Navy's remote-controlled underwater robot, R.O.V., which previously recovered the missing.

The search was planned four times a day, but it was actually put in only two times as the net interfered with visibility and movement.

The deployment of private deep-sea divers is also being delayed.

Because nets interfere with civilian divers' activities, removal is a priority.

After fixing the barge of a private rescue company, it is necessary to create a search passage by cutting the net in the water, and it is expected to take at least a week due to the deep water and the wide spread of the net.

In particular, deep-sea divers have to cut the net directly underwater, so the period may be longer depending on weather conditions.

[Jeong Moo-won / Jeju Regional Coast Guard Security and Safety Director: There are many nets scattered in the water. It usually takes a week to remove the net, and it seems that the situation will change a lot depending on the weather.]

It is also a limitation that the search for lives of Navy underwater robots is also forced to stop, as if deep-sea divers are deployed to remove nets, safety problems can arise due to overlapping movements.

[Jeong Moo-won / Head of Security Safety Division, Jeju Provincial Coast Guard: (Deep Sea Divers) We are planning to proceed with the start of the rescue company after consultation with our maritime police, navy, and rescue company. The current search situation is expected to take place for a little long time.]

There are also many other waste nets around the hull, which could lead to more nets to be removed.

As the net is a hindrance to the search, the search authorities are deeply concerned about the timing of the deployment of deep-sea divers.
