At around 2:10 a.m. today, a 119 report was received that smoke was coming from the underground parking lot of an apartment complex in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do.

The Mercedes electric car that was charging caught on fire,

told YTN reporters that there were several thunderous explosions.

[Apartment resident: Even though it was on the 12th floor, it sounded like thunder and lightning, so I just came out of my sleep. It's been about an hour since I woke up, but the explosion is still happening.]

In about two hours, most of the flames were contained, and fortunately, no one was injured.

However, more than 790 households were evacuated early in the morning, forcing them to wipe out their surprised hearts.

[Firefighting official: I heard it was an electric car, but when I went to the scene, it was confirmed that it was a charging facility. But as I checked more, (Bentz) electric cars were also smoking.]

Earlier in August, a Mercedes-Benz electric car parked in an underground parking lot of an apartment in Incheon's Cheongna International City caught fire.

About 20 residents were taken to the hospital after inhaling smoke from the fire, and 800 vehicles were burned around them.

At that time, there were many opinions that the faulty battery of the Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle was the cause of the fire, but the Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle that caught fire is said to be equipped with batteries from other manufacturers.

Citizens' anxiety is growing as cases of electric vehicles' fires are repeated when they are forgotten.
