U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who foresaw the largest-ever deportation of illegal immigrants, has begun working on a detailed action plan.
NBC reported on the 13th local time that officials in the second Trump administration plan to double the number of detention facilities for illegal immigrants across the United States.
The second Trump administration is said to be in contact with private companies that operate prisons, with the aim of expanding detention facilities in advance ahead of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) large-scale crackdown.
Currently, the capacity of illegal immigrant detention facilities in the United States is 41,000.
As the goal is to arrest and deport illegal immigrants currently staying in the United States, detention facilities are expected to be expanded around areas where many illegal immigrants live.
The second Trump administration is also said to be considering reviving the "family detention system," which the Biden administration discarded as a human rights protection.
If authorities arrest illegal immigrants and underage children at the same time, they will be held in the same detention facility.
Meanwhile, Trump has named his closest ally, South Dakota Gov. Kristinom, as Homeland Security secretary to implement his campaign promise to deport illegal immigrants.
