After a long 115-day meeting, delivery platforms and business organizations decided to introduce a win-win plan to cut current brokerage fees differentially.
The delivery platform and the win-win consultative body held their 12th meeting at the Seoul Government Complex this afternoon and decided to introduce a differential fee plan to lower the brokerage fee for Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats from the current 9.8% to 2.0-7.8% based on the transaction amount.
According to the settlement, a commission rate of 7.8% will be charged for the top 35% of stores in terms of transaction, a commission rate of 2.0% will be charged for the bottom 20% of stores, and a commission of 6.8% will be paid for the middle stores.
In other words, small-scale stores will see their commission rates drop by up to 7.8 percentage points.
Delivery costs paid by self-employed people are up to 500 won higher than the current 1,900 won to 2,900 won.
Delivery costs are also differentiated according to sales, so the bottom 20% only have to pay up to 2,900 won as they are now.
The changed commission rate and delivery fee will be applied for three years from the beginning of next year.
However, some point out that the settlement plan is a half-way agreement with the consent of two of the four companies.
Public interest committee members said they accepted the final win-win plan as they believed it could help small business owners, saying they should set up a permanent organization to continue win-win discussions in the future.
