UK pushes fines on executives for neglecting to sell weapons online

Britain seeks to fine individual executives of companies for failing to prevent the sale of weapons on social media or online sites.

Under a policy package issued by Britain's Interior Ministry to push legislation, it gives the police the power to demand online business executives delete certain content and can fine them up to 10,000 pounds and about 17.8 million won if they refuse to comply with two notices.

Deletion targets include content that sells weapons that are banned from trading, marketing content that promotes violence or promotes weapons that can be used for attacks.

The British government understands that offensive weapons, including weapons, are illegally sold or resold through social media or online marketplaces in the private sector.

The British government has started to eradicate illegal weapons trade because knife crime has been on the rise recently.

Official government statistics show England and Wales knife crime rose 4% in the 2023-2024 financial year from the previous year and knife robberies rose 13%.
