Lu, "56 million won paid" to soldiers with disabilities in 'special military operation'

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to pay up to 4 million rubles (about 56 million won) in temporary compensation to soldiers who have been disabled by serious injuries in Ukraine's "special military operation."

On the 14th (local time), the TAS news agency reported that a presidential decree was posted on Russia's official legal information Internet portal to increase disability compensation for soldiers participating in "special military operations" to 4 million rubles.

Previously, all seriously injured soldiers in 'special military operations' received compensation of 3 million rubles (42 million won). Five million rubles (70 million won) will be paid to the bereaved families of the dead.

If a soldier who was seriously injured by the decision on this day experiences a disability, he or she will receive an additional 1 million rubles (14 million won).

A plan to pay disability compensation differentially according to the severity of the injury was also introduced. Servants with severe injuries will receive 3 million rubles, soldiers with moderate injuries will receive 1 million rubles, and other casual soldiers will receive 100,000 rubles.

Russian media have pointed out that it is not fair to receive the same compensation regardless of the degree of injury.

However, there are criticisms that this measure is actually a "reduction in compensation." This is because it reversed its promise to pay 3 million rubles to all soldiers injured on the battlefield in Ukraine in the past and reduced the minimum payment to 100,000 rubles.

Reuters said, "Russia is reducing compensation payments to injured soldiers in Ukraine," and analyzed that the cost of "special military operations" is increasing.

Some worry that if a doctor makes a diagnosis by lowering the severity of the injury, he or she may not receive proper compensation.
