As the price of kimchi ingredients has risen sharply, many people feel so burdened that a new term called "Kimpo-jok" has emerged that gives up kimchi.

Local organizations and free cafeterias that share kimchi with neighbors in need are also complaining of difficulties in paying for kimchi.

I'm reporter Namgung Hyung-jin of HCN Chungbuk Broadcasting.

About 20 women's members constantly fill the cabbage with seasoning, and the kimchi is transferred in a paper box.

It has been 30 years since we made 300 kimchi and shared it for the underprivileged in the region, including the elderly and the disabled.

Although the funds raised by selling goods from bazaars and other organizations and members have been raising funds, the burden has increased by more than 20% compared to last year as the price of cabbage as well as ingredients such as radishes and green onions has increased.

[Han Dong-soon / Saemaul Women's Association in Seongan-dong, Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do: I tried to reduce this a lot because I was having a hard time (due to the cost of making kimchi). I tried to reduce it, but the people who helped me, because our members did this much (for helping me)....]

A local welfare center that runs a free cafeteria for the elderly is also sighing at the rising seaweed equipment.

As corporate sponsorship was cut off, Kim equipment was prepared by adding personal donations and some of the operating expenses of welfare centers, but the budget is limited while the cost is growing, controlling the amount.

[Cho Jong-rae / Head of Seobu Social Welfare Center in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province] Kimchi prices continue to rise, but the amount of donations and sponsored items remains the same, but the amount continues to decrease. So, we are in a situation where we are very short of donations in our operation.]

Kimjang Kimchi, which delivered warmth to the vulnerable, is directly hit by high prices, and a colder winter is expected than ever.
