Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke on the phone for the first time in about two years since December 2022.
The Kremlin said Putin gave Scholz details of Russia's vision in the war against Ukraine and what's to come during a call on the 15th local time.
Putin was quoted as saying in particular that any ceasefire agreement should be in line with the new territorial reality and Russia's national interests.
Reuters said Scholz had made it clear that the deployment of the North Korean front line was a serious act of escalating tensions.
On the call between the two, Ukrainian President Zelensky said Putin had long wanted to weaken Russia's isolation and that he had conveyed his opinion to Scholz.
