U.S. President Joe Biden said he is proud of the trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan and hopes to continue thereafter.

President Biden made the remarks at a three-way summit with President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Lima, Peru, on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit on the 15th local time.

After saying he had reached a time of significant political change, Biden said this would likely be the last trilateral meeting of his term and that he was proud to have been part of building the partnership.

He also said that 15 months ago, he held the first-ever summit between the top leaders of the three countries in Camp David, opening a whole new era of trilateral cooperation.

President Biden emphasized that the strengthening of cooperation between South Korea, the U.S. and Japan, which he promoted while in office, has been part of a larger effort to bring the U.S. Pacific allies together over the past four years.

In addition, he cited the specific achievements of the trilateral cooperation as promoting the development of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands, cooperation to secure future technologies, and countering the cooperation between North Korea and Russia.
