Samsung Electronics held a ceremony to bring in facilities for the next-generation semiconductor R&D complex at Kiheung Campus in Yongin, the birthplace of the semiconductor business, and announced plans to introduce state-of-the-art production facilities.
'NRD-K' is a 109,000㎡ complex R&D complex that Samsung Electronics is building to preempt future semiconductor technology, with a total investment of KRW 20 trillion.
Samsung Electronics plans to introduce cutting-edge production equipment such as high-resolution extreme ultraviolet exposure facilities and new material deposition facilities so that not only fundamental technology research but also product development can take place here.
Giheung Campus is a symbolic place where Samsung Electronics started its semiconductor business in earnest, and Samsung Electronics plans to provide a turning point for innovation through "NRD-K" and maximize synergy between technology and organizations.
About 100 people attended today's event, including Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun, who leads Samsung Electronics' semiconductor business, major management in the device solution (DS) sector and representatives of facility partners.
