Twenty-five thousand child abuse cases occurred last year...Forty-four victims died.

Last year, there were 25,739 cases of child abuse, killing 44 affected children, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said.Parents accounted for the majority of

perpetrators with 85.9%, followed by surrogate caregivers such as parents' cohabitants or teachers with 7.3% and relatives with 3%.

By type, emotional abuse was the most common at 43.1%, followed by overlapping abuse at 28.7%, physical abuse at 18.3%, neglect at 7.7%, and sexual abuse at 2.3%.

There were 4,448 cases of recurrence of abuse, and the detection rate of child abuse was 3.64%, down from 2022.
