'Walking Mom' has increased, but I'm still hit by 'house chores'!

First of all, it seems that the female employment rate itself has increased.

[Reporter]
Yes, it is.

Among married women, the proportion of so-called "working mothers" who work while raising children reached an all-time high.

This is the data from the National Statistical Office, and as of the first half of this year, there are about 7.65 million married women between the ages of 15 and 54.

Among these married women, the employment rate of women living with children under the age of 18 was 62.4%.

It rose 2.4 percentage points from last year to a new all-time high.

The employment rate of married women has been steadily rising due to the rise in the age of first marriage and the reduction of working hours during the parenting period.

First of all, the high employment rate of married women seems to be a good phenomenon, but I heard there are other aspects in detail.

[Reporter]
Yes, in short, statistics show that married women are still struggling with housework, most importantly caring for their children.

If you look at the employment rate of married women by age group,

The employment rate of married women aged 50 to 54 was the highest at 68.6%, and the younger the age, the lower the rate, so the employment rate for those aged 30 to 34 was 56.3%.

It seems a little strange that more active young women have lower employment rates than older women, because of their children.

The more children you have, and the younger you have, the lower the employment rate for women.

The employment rate of married women with children aged 13 to 17 is over 69%, while only 55.6% of women have children under the age of six.

If you look at the relationship with the number of children, you can see that the employment rate of women with one child exceeds 63%, while those with three or more children remain in the 57 percent range.

I think child rearing will also have a direct impact on career breaks, did you get those statistics?

[Reporter]
Yes, among married women living with children under the age of 18, career break women accounted for 22.7%.

Of course, this proportion decreased slightly from 24.9% last year, but when looking at the proportion of women in Gyeongdan by age of children,

525,000 Gyeongdan girls with children under the age of 6, 320,000 Gyeongdan girls with 7-12 years old, and 126,000 Gyeongdan girls with 13-17 years old, indicating that the more young children they have, the more career breaks.

Childcare was also the reason for career break, with 41.1%, overwhelmingly larger than other reasons such as marriage or pregnancy.
