China "Myanmar rebel leader in treatment in China"...denial of the alleged arrest

China has denied allegations of the arrest of Myanmar's rebel leader, saying he is being treated in his country.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Zhen said at a regular briefing on the 19th local time, "The head of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance has requested medical treatment and is currently recuperating in China."A spokesman for

lin, however, declined to comment on Peng Dasun's condition or specific whereabouts.

Earlier, Myanmar's local media Myanmar Now reported that Peng Dasun, who visited China late last month to meet with a senior Chinese official, was detained in the southern province of Yunnan.

AFP says China supplies and supports Myanmar's military regime, but maintains ties with rebels.
