The White House responded that it was not surprising to Russia's announcement of a new nuclear doctrine that eased its requirements for the use of nuclear weapons.

A White House National Security Council spokesman said he was not surprised by questions about Russia's nuclear doctrine changes and said he had no plans to adjust the U.S. nuclear posture in response, Reuters reported.

Earlier, Russia announced a new doctrine that would ease the requirement for the use of nuclear weapons after the U.S. allowed Ukraine to use U.S.-made missiles to attack the Russian mainland.

The new doctrine said any attack by a non-nuclear state backed by a nuclear power would be considered a joint attack and could respond with nuclear weapons to conventional weapons attacks that pose a threat to Russia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
