The Italian foreign minister said eight rockets that fell on the UN peacekeeping base in southern Lebanon on the 15th were likely Hezbollah's.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tayani told reporters today (20th) that attacking the contingent is unacceptable.

"If it was Hezbollah's mistake, they should learn to use weapons better," he said, stressing that U.N. peacekeepers are no one's enemy and exist for peace.

The Italian government complained to the Israeli government at the beginning of last week's incident, believing it was the work of Israeli forces, and an investigation found that it was not an Israeli attack.

U.N. peacekeepers have been deployed to the Israeli-Lebanese border since Israel first invaded Lebanon in 1978 when it was fighting Palestinian militants.

There are now 9,300 troops from 48 countries, and Italy has sent about 1,000 troops, the largest number among European countries.
