Korea has successfully produced and procured key parts of the "artificial sun" made by leading nuclear fusion countries around the world.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it has completed procurement by manufacturing the "vacuum container sector," a key component in charge of Korea, for the construction and operation of ITER, an international nuclear fusion test reactor.

The ITER vacuum container is a core facility of a nuclear fusion reactor that maintains a high vacuum environment and withstands high temperature and high pressure when a nuclear fusion reaction occurs at more than 100 million degrees, and Korea was in charge of manufacturing four of the nine sectors.

The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that the vacuum container is the most difficult item to manufacture among ITER components that only allows errors of a few millimeters or less, and that the procurement has obtained domestic fusion technology quality and technology reliability.The ITER, known as the artificial sun on the ground of
