Education authorities have launched a fact-finding investigation after parents sued a teacher for assaulting students at an elementary school in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the 26th, on the 19th, the fourth-grade homeroom teacher of the school restrained Ms. B after seeing her play with her friend somewhat severely.

Afterwards, B informed her parents that teacher A hit her in the process, and B's parents filed a complaint with the police against teacher A on charges of assault.

Since the complaint, teacher A has not been attending school on sick leave, claiming that he "did not hit Ms. B."

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Seongnam Office of Education are investigating the case, leaving open the possibility of infringement of teaching rights. If the educational authorities judge that it is an infringement of teaching rights, they can take legal action against both parents of B.

An official from the provincial office of education said, "Since teacher A is not coming to school complaining of trauma, we hired part-time instructors to guarantee students' right to learn, and we are considering providing additional support to the school."
