"Medium-sized companies should diversify exports to Trump's 2nd-term trade barriers"

Ahead of the launch of the second Trump administration in the U.S., there were opinions that domestic mid-sized companies should devise countermeasures such as diversifying export markets.

After the U.S. presidential election, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a mid-sized business committee on the theme of changes in the global trade environment.

Heo Yoon, a professor at Sogang University's Graduate School of International Studies who was in charge of the lecture, predicted that the second Trump administration will seek to balance the trade balance through universal tariffs and mutual trade laws, adding that indiscriminate pressure on the U.S. trade surplus countries will be applied regardless of whether they are allied or non-aligned.

He then suggested that since various forms of taxes and regulations are expected to be imposed on goods exported to the United States, there is a need to reduce dependence on exports to the United States and diversify export markets.

Park Il-joon, vice chairman of the KCCI, said, "In order for Korea to use these changes to create new growth engines, a quick and organic response to changes in the international situation and trade risks is essential."
