"U.S. to announce additional export regulations related to semiconductors in China as early as next week"

Additional export restrictions on China's semiconductors, pushed by the U.S. Joe Biden administration, will be announced as early as next week, Bloomberg reported.

Sources said the Biden administration is expected to announce further sanctions next week against selling semiconductor equipment and artificial intelligence AI memory chips to China, according to Bloomberg.

The sanctions reportedly include sanctions against some of Huawei's suppliers, a Chinese telecommunications equipment company.

Initially considered sanctioning six Huawei suppliers during the draft phase, Bloomberg said, but with current policy, only a few of them are planned to be added to the list of restricted transactions.

As a result, Changsin Memory Technology is expected to be excluded from the sanctions.

According to the sanctions, two semiconductor plants operated by Huawei's major partner, foundry (consignment production of semiconductors), SMIC (Central New York), are also expected to be subject to sanctions.

Sources said more than 100 companies will be on the list of additional sanctions, which will focus on companies making semiconductor manufacturing equipment rather than facilities that actually manufacture semiconductors.

The sanctions will also include some provisions for high-bandwidth memory chips responsible for storing data, Bloomberg added.

Sources said memory chipmakers such as Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron are expected to be affected by the move.

However, sources said the timing and content of the restrictions had been changed several times and had not been finalized until the official announcement.
