A court ruled that it was legal to terminate a coach's labor contract, which was disciplined by receiving cash from the players.

The Seoul Administrative Court ruled against the plaintiff in a lawsuit against the National Labor Relations Commission to cancel the judgment on unfair dismissal relief.

Jung joined the Gyeonggi Sports Council in February 2006 as a coach for the water polo team and has worked as a coach since 2018 by renewing his labor contract every year, but was demoted to a coach in 2021 after he was found to have received 10 million won in bribes from players and used public vehicles privately.

Afterwards, when Jeong was notified of the end of the labor contract by his agency, he filed a lawsuit for cancellation, calling it a "double disciplinary action following coach demotion."

The court explained that it is a serious misconduct to receive money and valuables from the players he coaches, and that the refusal to renew the labor contract cannot be regarded as a disciplinary measure unlike dismissal, so it does not constitute a double disciplinary action claimed by Jeong.
