It has been reported that the European Commission is set to push for a new regulation to effectively deport migrants who have entered the country illegally.

Citing several sources, the European version of Politico said the Commission is currently in talks with member states to work out the details of the new rules, with a draft as early as February next year.

The draft regulation is likely to include a consistent definition of the rights and obligations of migrants past their legal stay in the EU, as well as rules for repatriation to third countries.

It is also reportedly considering requiring targeted migrants to register at some kind of migrant detention facility with the aim of smooth deportation enforcement and minimizing the disappearance of illegal aliens.

Politico predicted that the new Commission, which was launched on the 1st of local time, is also expected to prioritize related policies as demands for EU-level measures to be prepared in major countries such as Poland and Italy.

Earlier in October, in a joint statement at the EU summit, the 27 countries urged the Commission to come up with new legislation to speed up the repatriation of illegal immigrants, saying, "We urge you to take decisive action by all means, including foreign, development, trade, and visa policies."
