Protests in Georgia, a country in southern Russia on the Black Sea coast, have continued for a fourth day against the government's suspension of EU membership negotiations.
As thousands demonstrated around the parliament, firing fireworks at police, police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse and arrest more than 200 people.
Georgia's Interior Ministry says more than 100 police officers were injured and three were hospitalized in the violence of protesters.
On the other hand, Georgia's President Salome Zuravishvili, who is at odds with the ruling party, said many of the arrested protesters suffered fractures to their heads and faces.
Georgia is a candidate for EU membership, but pro-Russian ruling party "Georgia's Dream" declared a halt to accession negotiations after winning a general election in October.
The pro-Western president and opposition parties have refused to acknowledge the election result, calling it a rigged election involving Russia, but the ruling party and Russia have denied the allegations.
Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution criticizing Georgia's general election for being neither free nor fair.
