Commissioners have voiced concern over the revision of the law, which turns three standing members, including the chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, into public officials and turns the Korea Communications Standards Commission into a national institution.

Ryu Hee-rim, chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, Kang Kyung-pil, and Kim Jung-soo, pointed out in a statement today (16th) that if the opposition-led revision of the law is implemented, state agencies will interfere with broadcasting and communications.

He then claimed that he would control the chairman of the Korea Communications Standards Commission by including him in the National Assembly's confirmation hearings and impeachment targets, complicating the Korea Communications Standards Commission in partisan interests.

He also stressed that he deeply sympathizes with and is concerned about this reaction, saying that there are criticisms that the Korea Communications Standards Commission could falter whenever a regime change occurs due to concerns over "state censorship" and political influence.

The committee members urged the National Assembly to gather wisdom in the remaining legislative process so that the status of the Korea Communications Standards Commission, a private independent organization, will not be undermined.
