The U.S. government has decided to sell equipment and other equipment necessary for the Korean destroyer performance improvement project to Korea.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense says the State Department has approved foreign military sales of $300 million in military and program support requested by the South Korean government for the destroyer's performance improvement project.
This includes equipment and software, education, technical support, including the MK 99 thermal control system.
The Ministry of National Defense said the sale will strengthen the security of the alliance, achieving U.S. diplomatic and security objectives and improving South Korea's capacity to carry out anti-ship and anti-aircraft missions.
He also explained that performance improvement is not about the addition of destroyer capabilities, but about solving aging problems.
