France's highest court, the Court of Cassation, has found former President Nicolas Sarkozy guilty.
Instead of guaranteeing a comfortable job in Monaco to an incumbent judge in 2014, he allegedly took out investigative information about himself.
In fact, no job was provided, and the investigation at the time was cleared, but it is judged that he is still found guilty.
The execution of two years out of three years in prison has been suspended, but the remaining year will require wearing an electronic bracelet under house arrest.
Sarkozy is the first former president to actually serve in prison in France.
Sarkozy, who has pleaded not guilty, says he will file a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights, saying he can never accept the huge absurdity.
Sarkozy is on trial in addition to this case.
An appeal trial is underway after he was convicted of overspending legal campaign expenses and issuing false receipts during his 2012 re-election bid.
He is also accused of receiving millions of euros from Libyan dictator Gaddafi during the 2007 presidential election.
The trial is scheduled to begin next month, and if found guilty, it could carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
