Nigerian school crush... "several children killed"

Several children were killed in a crush at a school in southwestern Nigeria, AP and other foreign media reported.

On the 18th local time, a crush occurred at an event for children and their families at an Islamic high school in Basorun, Oyo State, Nigeria.

"There have been several deaths and injuries," Oyo State Governor Seymakinde said in a statement. "We have arrested the organizers of the event."

Xinhua quoted local media as saying at least 30 children were killed in the disaster.

Local media also reported that 5,000 children were scheduled to participate in the event, and that cash and gifts were planned to be distributed.
