The Biden administration has announced that it will soon engage in high-level dialogue with the Korean government under Acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo.

It is expected that high-level contact will take place on the 20th of next month when Biden's term ends, in support of constitutional measures taken by South Korea after the martial law crisis.

The U.S. government has said it plans to engage in high-level face-to-face diplomacy with the South Korean government in the coming weeks.

At a press conference in the Asia-Pacific region in Washington, DC, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell responded to the question of whether he planned to have a high-level contact with Acting President Han Duck-soo.

Deputy Secretary Campbell says he has supported constitutional measures taken by South Korea during uncertain times, including the declaration of martial law and the impeachment process, and has expressed confidence in South Korea.

Regarding acting Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, he also said that he is well known to the U.S. as an ambassador to the U.S. and fully supports Han's role.

The U.S. State Department briefing also stressed that the U.S. will cooperate with the South Korean government, saying that the most important thing in the current situation is that South Korea has shown democratic resilience and followed the peaceful procedures outlined in the Constitution.

Deputy Secretary Kurt Campbell also voiced concern that the declaration of martial law was a "serious misjudgment" and that diplomatic disruptions with the United States were inevitable.

According to the U.S. government's announcement, a meeting of South Korean and U.S. foreign ministers or a visit by high-level officials is expected to take place before the 20th of next month, the day of the launch of the second Trump administration.

The Biden administration's high-level contact with the U.S., ahead of a regime change next month, is interpreted as a move to support the progress of the South Korea-U.S. alliance and the stable situation in South Korea during Biden's presidency.
