Earlier, YTN reported the news that the east coast of Gangwon-do has become the main defense producer.

There are fish that are caught this much, and there are fish whose catch has decreased in reverse.

The cause is an increase in sea temperature, that is, a warm ocean.

Following pollack and squid, representative winter fish on the east coast, such as sandfish and Yangmi, are disappearing.

I'm reporter Hong Seong-wook.

[Reporter]
On the east coast of winter, the smell of grilling fish fills the port.

Grilled fish is a delicacy that should not be missed over briquettes.

The fish that come to mind when you think of the east coast in winter, this Yangmi and Dorumuk. Every year, it was caught cold and overflowing, making the port lively. How about this year?

Fishermen who cleared the nets in the sea.

There are no fish.

I thought I'd come with a full load of sandfish filled with eggs, but the sea has changed.

[Choi Young-soon / Fishman: The water temperature is so warm that there's no fish cake.]

There are some fishing boats that are in a better situation, but the joy of a full ship has become an old saying.

There are many ships that give up fishing for sandfish. Originally, it was supposed to be done by mid-January, but there were several ships that I gave up because there was no expenses.]

The same goes for Yangmi, another winter representative fish species.

Yangmi, which used to be hung so tightly that there were no gaps in each net, is now less than half caught.

Fishermen are worried that just as pollock and squid disappeared, sandfish and Yang Mi-ri will also disappear.

If the water temperature is right, Yangmi is formed, and if the water gets (more) hot, won't Yangmi disappear, like pollack....]

The reason is that the sea temperature is rising and the East Coast fishing grounds map is changing rapidly.

The yellowtail, which did not even count the catch because there was no catch until 2017, was caught nearly seven times the catch of Jeju last year and rose to the top of the catch.

On the other hand, squid, which used to be a representative fish species on the east coast, have lost 95% of their catch compared to 20 years ago.The catch of sandfish and lamb ∀, which used to be filial sons on behalf of the missing pollock and squid
, is also decreasing significantly every year.

[Lee Seon-gil / Dr. Donghae Research Institute of the National Institute of Fisheries Science: Developing aquaculture varieties that can grow well in accordance with the water temperature of the East Coast and transferring technology to fishermen is another way to do so]

A situation in which indiscriminate overfishing along with changes in water temperature leads to depletion of fish stocks.

20 years since pollack disappeared,
Fish resources representing the
East Coast are disappearing again.
