First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun rushed to the U.S. ahead of the Christmas holiday.

Martial law is a visit to meet Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, who said it was a serious misjudgment by Yoon Suk Yeol's president, to explain the situation at home and discuss future cooperation measures.

President-elect Trump, who will take office next month, also said he is explaining martial law and impeachment, but he said he will not meet with Trump on this visit.

Vice Minister Kim said, "We are not in a position to convey how Trump perceives the situation in Korea, but we would have confirmed Korea's strong democratic resilience."

[Kim Hong-kyun / Deputy Foreign Minister] As the world saw, I think Korea has a clear understanding of the situation because it has shown how resilient democracy is.]

Vice Minister Kim explained that under acting Han Deok-soo, he is preparing for the launch of the second Trump administration and making various plans.

In particular, since the cooperation between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan began during the first Trump administration, it is expected that the second government will continue.

It also said it would discuss whether to hold a foreign ministers' meeting before the end of the Biden administration's term.

Vice Minister Kim plans to fly to Tokyo after three days of visiting Washington to continue the Korea-Japan foreign ministerial talks.
