Six people challenged the 42nd Korea Sports Council presidential election, the most ever.

With Chairman Lee Ki-heung challenging to serve three consecutive terms, five opposition candidates, including Yoo Seung Min, former president of the Table Tennis Association, Kang Shin-wook, emeritus professor at Dankook University, Kim Yong-joo, former secretary-general of the Gangwon Sports Council, and Oh Joo-young, former chairman of Sepak Takraw, have registered as candidates.

Park Chang-beom, former president of the Wushu Association, and Ahn Sang-soo, former mayor of Incheon, declared that they would not run at the last minute, but the "unification of the opposition camp" effectively failed.

The next presidential election will be held on January 14th next year at the Olympic Hall in Seoul with on-site voting from 2,300 electors, including athletes, leaders, and sports organization executives.
