Nuclear fuel debris from Fukushima nuclear power plant will be exported for the second time in March-April next year.

Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Co., which exported a small amount of nuclear fuel debris from the Fukushima nuclear power plant last month for the first time in 13 years, plans to export it for the second time between March and April next year, Kyodo News reported.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. is also expected to use the fishing rod-type device used last month again for the second time next spring.

The device can pick up and take out nuclear fuel debris with a nail-shaped tool attached to the end of a pipe up to 22 meters long.

The first shipment was completed on the 7th of last month, and the debris was transferred to the Institute of Nuclear Research and Development in Japan for ingredient analysis.

The nuclear fuel debris recovered for the first time weighed 0.7 g, and the surface radiation measured at a distance of 1 to 2 cm was 8 m ㏜ per hour (millisieverts).

It is estimated that there is a total of 880 tons of nuclear fuel debris in reactors 1 to 3 of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

The Japanese government has planned to dismantle the Fukushima nuclear power plant around 2051 but has yet to decide how to remove all the debris.
