Signs of U.S. labor market instability...1.91 million unemployed for more than two weeks

More than 1.91 million people have applied for unemployment benefits in the U.S. for more than two weeks, making the labor market somewhat shaky this year despite the growth of the U.S. economy.

The U.S. Labor Department said the number of "continued unemployment benefits" claims filed for unemployment benefits for more than two weeks came to 1.91 million between the 8th and 14th of this month, up 46,000 from the previous week, the largest such figure since November 2021.

The Associated Press said the rising number of unemployment benefits means it's getting harder for people on benefits to find new jobs.

The U.S. economy remains strong, but hiring demand appears to be decreasing.

In addition, the number of new unemployment benefits claims in the U.S. last week was 219,000, down 1,000 from a week ago, less than the market estimate of 223,000.
