NASA's solar probe 'Parker Solar Probe' has set a new history of getting closest to the sun with a spacecraft.
NASA says 'Parker' approached just 6.1 million kilometers from the sun's surface on Christmas Eve.The
'Parker' lost communication for several days flying near the hot sun, but it succeeded in sending a signal to NASA just before midnight (2 p.m. KST) on the 27th.
According to NASA's website, 'Parker' withstood temperatures of up to 980 degrees Celsius, traveling at a maximum speed of 692,000 kilometers per hour.
NASA said the probe is still safe and operating normally after it passes near the sun.
Parker's previous close record was an altitude of 7.26 million kilometers achieved in September last year and March this year.
Parker is the fastest spacecraft made by mankind and is built to withstand heat of 1,370 degrees.
