One of the reasons why former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who is accused of leading the emergency martial law, justified martial law was "finding out allegations of fraudulent elections."

It is the same as the reason for the declaration of martial law claimed by President Yoon Suk Yeol, and some analysts say that he intends to rally his supporters in the face of the impeachment trial.

Reporter Chung Hyeon-woo reports.

Intelligence agents entered the Central Election Commission's computer room two minutes after martial law was declared.

In a public statement, Yoon Suk Yeol said the NEC's computer system was a sham, and the people could not trust the election results, so he ordered the defense minister to inspect it.

Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun was found to have told Yeo In-hyeong, commander of counterintelligence four days before martial law, that the election watchdog should secure computerized data to find evidence of fraudulent elections.

The allegations of fraudulent elections were repeated at the press conference of former Minister Kim.

Kim's lawyer argued that special measures were needed in the past because the NEC refused to check the security system of the National Intelligence Service, submitted only virtual servers, and refused to search for investigative agencies.

[Yoo Seung-soo / Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun Lawyers (last 26th): If this issue is not resolved, it will be the president's responsibility to confirm it through special measures.]

In response, the NEC immediately refuted the claim, saying that the fraudulent election theory is a false claim.

When the National Intelligence Service inspected the NEC, it gave the authority to access all computer equipment, including servers, and explained that it is also responding to seizure and search according to due process.

In addition, the Supreme Court dismissed or dismissed all 126 cases of election invalidity lawsuits filed during the 21st general election in 2020 for alleged manipulation of early ballots as "baseless."

At the time of the 22nd general election, a conservative group filed a complaint against an NEC official, raising suspicions of computer manipulation, but the police cleared him of charges.

Nevertheless, some say that President Yoon and former Minister Kim have always insisted on the theory of fraudulent elections, and that they may have been aiming to gather supporters who are sensitive to the issue of fraudulent elections in the face of impeachment.

As such, President Yoon's side is expected to wage an all-round public opinion war during the impeachment trial, citing the theory of fraudulent election as the reason for declaring martial law.
