The U.S. government has approved the sale of an intermediate-range air-to-air missile to Japan and notified Congress, Jiji news agency reported.

The amount of approval for the sale is known to be $3.64 billion, including missiles and related devices, and KRW 5.3 trillion.

The U.S. government said it would increase Japan's ability to respond to current and future threats.

Jiji News Agency analyzed that the purpose is to strengthen Japan's deterrent power with China and other military threats growing in the Indo-Pacific region in mind.

The Japanese government says it wants to buy 1,200 Amram shots in the U.S.
