What judgment did the court make?

Yes, the court sentenced the company commander and vice lieutenant commander to five and three years in prison, respectively, for ordering military training in violation of the regulations.

The charges applied to them are abuse of authority under the military criminal law and abuse and death under the criminal law.

The court explained that the mistreatment directed to the trainees was harsh beyond due training and that the intentionality of the abuse was also recognized.

He then found the accused guilty, saying that abnormal military training had reduced public trust in the military, and that there was a causal relationship between the defendants' actions and their deaths.

The incident occurred in May last year.

Lieutenant Nam, a lieutenant in the Army's 12th Division's boot camp, decided to train six trainees on the grounds that they talked after the call of bedtime.

The next day, I reported it to Captain Kang, the company commander, and it was approved.

In order to conduct military training, I had to give an opportunity to call and get a confirmation letter, but I didn't keep it.

At that time, the trainees had only been admitted for 10 days, so they did not receive all the supplies.

Because of this, the empty commander made him fill it with books.

Under the direction of the lieutenant commander, the training began at 4:30 p.m., and he carried more than 30 kilograms of military commander and made him go around the training center two times in the scorching sun.

Subsequently, the company commander appeared on the scene, and ordered additional attention, such as a first-come, first-served run and push-ups.

There was no break during the hour-long struggle, and in the process, a trainee Park collapsed.

He was taken to a hospital, but died of multiple organ failure caused by heat stroke.

During the trial, fellow trainees testified that at the time of the accident, the company commander grabbed the fallen trainee by the collar, shook him, and shouted not to fake him, and answered that they wanted punishment.

Earlier, the prosecution demanded 10 years and 7 years in prison for the company commander and the vice lieutenant commander, respectively.

The Chuncheon District Court, which took charge of the case, pleaded guilty to the company commander and deputy lieutenant commander eight months after the incident and sentenced him to prison.
