Japan, Indonesia to resume negotiations to export frigates

2025.01.08 AM 10:33
Japan and Indonesia's defense ministers held talks and decided to resume talks on how to export Japanese frigates to Indonesia, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

Japan's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and Indonesian Defense Minister Shafri Shamsuddin agreed to form a consultative body on maritime security to discuss the export of Japanese frigates during talks in Jakarta.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who will travel to Southeast Asia from tomorrow, is expected to directly explore the export of frigates at a summit with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on the 11th, Yomiuri said.

Japan, which cannot export its frigate as it is due to the three principles of defense equipment transfer, plans to export the ship in the form of joint development.
