The Ministry of Environment said it conducted a second safety inspection of 590 products from overseas online retailers and confirmed that 86 products were not suitable for domestic safety standards.

The subjects of this inspection were daily chemical products such as air fresheners and adhesives, as well as asbestos-containing products such as metal equipment and motorcycle brake pads.

In particular, lead was detected in bracelets sold by AliExpress, which exceeded 443 times the standard, and asbestos was found in motorcycle brake pads, which was about 10 times more than the standard.

The government notified the Korea Customs Service to prevent caught nonconformity with safety standards from being brought into the country and asked overseas online retailers to block sales.

Information on products that are not suitable for domestic safety standards can be found on the Green Nuri website (ecolife.me.go.kr ), the asbestos management comprehensive information network (asbestos.me.go.kr ), and consumer 24 (consumer.go.kr ).

In September last year, the Ministry of Environment also investigated the stability of 558 overseas direct purchase products and found 69 non-conforming products.
