EU and EU member states have strongly criticized Israel for forcing its entry into a UN peacekeeping base in Lebanon with tanks.

"The mission of the UN peacekeeping force is very important and it is absolutely unacceptable to attack," EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Rousseff Borrell told a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on the 14th local time.

Borrell also strongly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for calling for the withdrawal of U.N. forces.

In particular, it is the authority of the Security Council to decide whether to remain in the U.N. peacekeeping force, he said, calling on Israel to "stop criticizing U.N. Secretary-General Guterres."

The EU issued a statement the day before calling for Israel to stop attacking UN forces in the name of senior representative Borrell.

Foreign ministers from the EU, including Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Beltkamp, also urged Israel to refrain, saying that attacks on peacekeepers violate international law.
