As the parliamentary conflict, which began with the increase of medical schools, continues, direct repercussions are occurring throughout the medical field.

Seoul National University Hospital has more than doubled the outpatient waiting period, and the number of organ transplants in hospitals nationwide has also decreased significantly.

It has been more than eight months since doctors left the hospital in protest of the increase in medical school.

In a situation where the manpower is extremely scarce, the government has established an emergency medical system and is managing it centering on the emergency room.

[Kim Kook-il / Health and Medical Policy Officer of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (last 10th): The arrival time of the emergency room is 33.3% for less than 2 hours and 18.2% for less than 1 hour, so there is no significant difference every year. After visiting the emergency room, the initial medical treatment hours for specialists decreased from 24.7 minutes to 17.9 minutes per normal time.

However, the aftermath of the gap in majors is being revealed from general treatment.

The average number of days waiting for outpatient treatment at 16 national university hospitals and branches nationwide was 23.8 days as of June this year.

This is a 29% increase from the 18.5 days average over the past five years.

In particular, Seoul National University Hospital's headquarters had the longest waiting days of 62 days, more than twice as long as the average figure for the past five years here.

In addition, the number of days waiting for hospitalization and surgery in national university hospitals has also increased compared to before the medical gap.

Organ transplants, which can be directly linked to patient life, have also decreased significantly.

From February to August of this year, the number of five organ transplants of kidneys, liver, pancreas, heart, and lungs was 835, down 22.8% from the same period last year.

By organ, pancreatic transplants decreased the most to 56.3%, heart transplants 27.8% and kidney transplants 23.9% less.

In addition, nearly 20% fewer brain deaths agreed to organ donation than in the same period last year, and the lack of medical personnel to persuade organ donation has affected it.
