Itaewon bereaved family "Court exonerates the person in charge of responding to insolvency"

When three officials from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, including former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Kwang-ho, were found not guilty in the first trial, the bereaved families protested, saying they could not understand.

The Itaewon bereaved family council and civic countermeasures council strongly criticized the court for not fulfilling its responsibility for preventing and responding to disasters and exonerating those responsible for killing 159 people.

In addition, he demanded an immediate appeal from the prosecution, saying he abandoned the opportunity to consider how heavy his responsibility as a public official is to protect the lives and safety of the people.

At the same time, he added that he would not give up so that the truth can be found and the person in charge can be punished outside the court.

Earlier, the bereaved families of the Itaewon disaster held pickets in front of the Seoul Western District Court for three days from the 15th and urged the court to punish officials of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
