Kim Sung-tae, former chairman of Ssangbangwool Group, said he has never cajoled Lee as a witness in the appeals trial of Lee Hwa-young, former vice governor of peace in Gyeonggi Province, who was sentenced to heavy punishment in the first trial for illegal remittance to North Korea.

At the appeal hearing held yesterday (17th) at the Suwon High Court, former chairman Kim strongly denied the former lieutenant governor's claim that he threatened former lieutenant governor Lee to make false statements about Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Regarding former lieutenant governor Lee's change of statement in June last year that he reported to then-Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung about his push to visit North Korea, when the lawyer asked if former chairman Kim pressured him, Kim rather countered that former lieutenant governor Lee said Lee Jae-myung was a snake.

Earlier, former lieutenant governor Lee was sentenced to nine and a half years in prison in the first trial in June on charges of violating the Foreign Exchange Transaction Act and taking bribes, and both prosecutors and lawyers have appealed and are on trial.

While the appeals court is expected to conclude this month, former lieutenant governor Lee filed a third bail with the court the day before (16th).
