Shigeru Ishiba's approval rating for the Japanese cabinet fell by 0.6 percentage points a week before the general election, a survey showed.

Kyodo News reported that in a telephone poll conducted from the 19th to the 20th, Ishiba's cabinet approval rate was 41.4%.

40.4% said they did not support it.

The approval rating of Ishiba's Cabinet, which was launched on the 1st of this month, fell 8.7 percentage points in about 10 days from 50.7 percent on the 1st to 42.0 percent on the 12th and 13th, followed by an additional 0.6 percentage point drop in a week.

Prime Minister Ishiba dissolved the House of Representatives early and threw a game-winner of the general election, but the gap between the ruling and opposition parties is narrowing as the election approaches on the 27th.

22.6% of the respondents picked the ruling Liberal Democratic Party as a proportional representation voting party, while 14.1% of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party.

Opposition parties accounted for 33.2 percent of the candidates for the district vote, higher than the ruling party's 24.6 percent.
