Four out of 10 wage workers in their 20s are non-regular workers.

It is the highest proportion ever as of August since related statistics were written, and it is analyzed that the proportion of part-time jobs has increased.

Among wage workers in their 20s, the number of non-regular workers is on the rise.

As of August this year, the number of non-regular workers reached 1.46 million and 43.1% of wage workers in their 20s.

It is the highest proportion ever as of August since 2003 when related statistics began to be compiled.

By type of work, the increase in the number of part-time workers working shorter than usual working hours over the past decade has been noticeable.

In addition, 66.6% of all non-regular workers voluntarily chose non-regular jobs, about 2 out of 3 workers, the highest since related statistics were compiled.

The most common reason for choosing non-regular workers was 'satisfied with working conditions'.

The increase in non-regular workers seems to be due to the decline in regular jobs due to sluggish business conditions in some industries, including manufacturing. It is also interpreted that the job market

tends to prefer experienced workers to new employees and occasional employment rather than regular employment, and the employment patterns are diversifying to part-time workers.

[Kim Yu-bin / Head of trend analysis at the Korea Labor Institute: One aspect is that the proportion of employment types changes according to sluggish business conditions. This is because the preference for such jobs has risen as part-time jobs are freer than regular workers and wages and working conditions have improved compared to the past....]

With the increasingly diversified employment pattern, the demand for part-time jobs is expected to increase in the future, so it is time to review whether the social safety net suitable for various types of work is in place.
