The military's death case, which has been debunked...Court "State compensates bereaved families"

A court ruling has been issued that the state should compensate the bereaved family of the late boss Yeom Soon-deok, whose cause of death has not been identified for more than a decade due to the military's poor investigation.

The Seoul Central District Court ruled that the defendant should pay a total of 90 million won in a compensation suit filed by Yeom's bereaved family against the state.

The court pointed out that the military police and police investigated key physical evidence unreasonably or poorly in the early stages of the incident, so it was very insufficient to secure evidence.

He also acknowledged the state's responsibility for compensation, saying that the criminal and the murder have not been accurately identified so far.

In December 2001, Sergeant Yeom, a member of the Army, died on his way home after drinking with people from the same unit.

After that, the case remained unsolved and a belated re-investigation took place, and the police booked the people in the unit who drank together as suspects.

However, the prosecution was not prosecuted for reasons such as insufficient evidence, and the bereaved family of First Class Yeom filed a lawsuit against the state in September 2018, claiming that the investigation by the military police and the police was poor.
